Google slap

I think a lot of you have noticed a significant drop in your Google page ranks in the past few days. Two of my blogs have received a drop: Sasha@Akoni dropped to a PR2 from a PR4 while my Bookmarks dropped from a PR3 to a PR2.

When I noticed this, I thought I did some monumental blunder somewhere. I tried to recall whatever I did to my site and came up with nothing. So I assumed that it was all about traffic. The blogs were not getting enough of it.

But I was wrong! When I checked out the traffic for both sites, both were pretty good.

And then a friend told me yesterday about the news on Google penalizing paid links. Apparently, Google is on a trackdown on blogs getting paid to post links of advertisers. A lot of people who are into get paid to blog programs got a significant drop in their page ranking and it pissed a lot of them. I checked some bloggers linked to me and yes, their page ranks dropped as well. Most drops are two ranks like my akoni site.

I, myself, am not happy about this. A friend told me that Google is just making sure people get quality content when they go searching for something. I say Google is pissed because instead of advertising through their Adsense, advertisers now flock to bloggers to do their advertising for them!

I was just wondering why they think they are internet gods that we should all follow. Can someone explain this to me?

I wrote several post re: reasons why Google is penalizing blogs with sponsored post and selling text links..

but there are blogs that do not sell links na bumaba din PR eh.. weird talaga sila.. ;)

It’s not just PR – Google dropped many of my pages from their index and my hits are way down due to my site wide classified ads… this is like a library penalizing magazines and newspapers for containing ads…

Please visit me at: http://www.kweevak.com so I can start getting some hits again!
