Being a godmother

One thing about being a godmother is that you are expected to be there for your godchild’s milestones in life. You are expected to be there on his baptism, confirmation, first birthday, third birthday, seventh birthday, sixteen or eighteenth birthday (depending on the customs of the family) as well as on all holidays and special occasions in school and outside of it. You are expected to be there to stand with the parents or for them when they are not available. I am committed to being that kind of godmother to my godchildren. I won’t be all gifts for godchild on special occasions. I will also be the one to give the gifts to them. I will be that kind of godmother.
Unfortunately, some of my godchildren live far away from here. They live in the province. They live in another city. They live in other places that are not easily reachable in an hour or two. Of course, that’s not an excuse for me to renege on my duties as a godmother but it just makes it hard for me to do my job as one.
I will find time to be there, though, no matter what. I will be their godmother and will be their second parent when they need me to.
