Soccer fan

During one of my weekend bonding with my sister’s family at their place, my 7 year old nephew was glued to the TV set watching a soccer game. He would not even blink an eye while staring at the TV screen. My sister told me the story about my nephew’s fascination with the game. First, his school’s physical education curriculum involve the kids into outdoor games and what they are into right now is playing soccer. 0ne time he got home from school, he told them he wanted to become a professional soccer player someday like David Beckham. My sister and her husband were surprised to hear him talk about Beckham. It turned out that he got his ideas about the sport from one of his classmate’s brother who is a junior varsity player. There was even a time when he brought home a magazine about soccer and went on lecturing them about the facts he learned from the magazine.

Being amazed by my nephew’s fascination on such sport, I got permission from his parents to buy him some soccer stuff. So the next weekend I took him to a sports shop at the mall. He was in awe when he saw the Soccer Balls, Beckham’s posters, the soccer uniforms, the socks and shoes. He was even more surprised when I told him that if he could promise me to study his lessons in school, even though he is permitted to play soccer, I could buy him the soccer stuff that he likes. The kid said yes and off he went on pointing what he wanted to buy. He was so happy when we got home. All he could say were all the things he saw at the shop. As I bid my go0dbye to him, he gave me a tight hug while thanking me and promising he wont neglect his lessons in school.

My officemate hosted a barbeque party yesterday. It’s a thanksgiving lunch for the successful recovery of her wife from breast cancer. There were only few of us who were there, gathered at their backyard. Some were also her wife’s officemates. He prepared grilled chicken, beef, fish and some veggies. As we were eating and telling stories at the same time, mrs. Patty, their big dog, while running around, bumped the still hot grill. The three and a half feet tall grill fell over her making feel the heat of the grill on her fur. She was making hurt sounds when we noticed the accident. To my officemate’s surprised, he went to help the dog immediately. Because there was no pot holders at sight, he got his kids’ Baseball Gloves which were on the ground and let the dog off from the grill that fell down on her. The dog run away still hurting. My officemate’s wife followed the dog to check on her. She discovered that the dog had burnt injuries all over her back. So, immediately my officemate took the dog to the vet for first aid. We continued our lunch though feeling sad about the dog’s accident. Bef0re we went home, my officemate came back with mrs. patty. Thank God her injuries were just minor ones. She needs to rest and to take medicati0n for a week. Poor mrs patty..
