Getting hooked on Heroes

I am hooked on HEROES! This tv show replaced X-Files in my heart. The show makes you think, which is something I always look for in a show. You will always have this “aha!” moment when another episode unfolds.

Heroes is a science fiction drama tv series created by Tim Kring. It premiered on September 25, 2006 and tells the story of several people who “thought they were like everyone else… until they realized they have incredible abilities” such as telepathy, time travel, flight and instantaneous regeneration. These people soon realize they have a role in preventing a catastrophe and saving mankind.

The second season is scheduled to premiere on September 24, 2007. And I can’t wait to watch it!

Heroes is like a comic book turned tv series except that this one is more complicated. Here are some characters in the tv show.

Noah Bennet (Jack Coleman), more commonly referred to as “Mr. Bennet” or “the Man in Horn-Rimmed Glasses”, a father who works for the Primatech Paper Company, which is actually a cover operation for an organization that investigates people with superhuman abilities. This is so X-Files-like. You know, someone acting normal and for the good of mankind when in fact he is behind something dangerous and is using people around him. Makes you think of th Cigarette-Smoking Man in X-Files.

Claire Bennet (Hayden Panettiere), Mr. Bennet’s adopted daughter, a high school cheerleader who lives in Odessa, Texas, and has a spontaneous regenerative ability. I love the episode wherein this girl died and was already being autopsied when the tree branch that killed her was removed from her neck, she suddenly breathed and came back to life. Then she realized she was already opened and being autopsied. She saw her lungs, flesh opened wide and ribs showing. It was the best!

D.L. Hawkins (Leonard Roberts), the husband of Niki and father of Micah, has the power to alter his physical tangibility and phase through solid objects. This man is huge!

Isaac Mendez (Santiago Cabrera), an artist living in New York who can paint future events during precognitive trances. He also writes and draws a comic book called 9th Wonders! which has also been shown to depict the future. He has problems with drugs. This is the painter who can paint whatever is happening to any one of the main characters. Plus he’s the one who was able to see what will happen in the future.

Hiro Nakamura (Masi Oka), a programmer from Tokyo with the ability to manipulate the space-time continuum. He is convinced that he is a hero, and with other “special persons”, he can change the future. I love this character! He can transport himself from Japan to New York and can make time stop. He is always jolly and I love that he got depressed when he was not able to save the innocent people.

Matt Parkman (Greg Grunberg), a Los Angeles police officer with the ability to hear other people’s thoughts. I pity this guy. He can hear thoughts of people around him and its making him crazy.

Nathan Petrelli (Adrian Pasdar), a New York Congressional candidate with the ability of self-propelled flight. Ha! This man can fly. And he is sexy. Love him!

Peter Petrelli (Milo Ventimiglia), a former hospice nurse and Nathan’s younger brother. He is an empath with the ability to absorb the powers of others he has been near and recall them. My sisters and I were arguing what this person’s powers are. Because there was an episode wherein he flew with his brother. But then we realized that he is an empath when he copied the powers of the painter and finished the painting about the cheerleader.

Niki Sanders (Ali Larter), the wife of D.L. and mother of Micah. A former internet stripper from Las Vegas who exhibits superhuman strength and an alternate personality who goes by the name of Jessica. This character brings to mind a book of Sydney Sheldon that I read. It’s title is Tell Me Your Dreams about a woman who has a multiple personality disorder.

The main antagonist in season one is Sylar (Zachary Quinto), a serial killer who hunts super-powered individuals in order to take their abilities.

Yan, dyan ako hook na hook right now. The show is really great and I can’t wait to watch season 2.
