Proposal Rock tragedy
My sister and I always watch The Inside Edition. This afternoon, there was a report about an American who was supposed to propose to his girlfriend when she was suddenly swept away by big waves.
American, Scott Napper, took his Filipina girlfriend, Leafil Alforque, to Proposal Rock near Neskowin Beach in Oregon to pop the question. It was supposed to be a romantic moment for the two. Napper was preparing to propose and present his ring to Alforque when all of a sudden a big wave came crashing towards them. The last time Napper saw his girlfriend, she was being swept away by the waves.
This is just so sad. Alforque’s body has not yet been found. Let’s all pray for her soul and those that she left behind.
Paypal rates
I don’t know exactly how Paypal determines their US dollar to peso exchange rate. I have always assumed that their rate is lower by a peso. That is based on monitoring the rates they used in the past. But last week, their rate got stuck to $1 : Php47.20 for almost 3 days! The rate here in the country is $1 : Php49+. So their rate should have been in the Php48 level. Or even slightly lower than that. Oh well…
Earning is getting harder and harder each day. But I am still hopeful that the next year will bring in good tidings for all of us.
Happy Monday! Have a great week everyone!
Almost complete Christmas list
My Christmas list is almost complete. One of the challenges of having a large extended family is giving gifts come the holidays. My list has mp3 players, CDs, clothes, toys, beanies, books, an electric fan, and so much more. Even creating that list is a challenge for me. It’s hard to think of what to give someone that will fit your budget. Hopefully, what I chose for each one will be something they can use and something that will make them happy. For myself, I am not expecting that much. A good book, a spa voucher, or even a wallet or bag will be nice
Simple joys
Last weekend felt like I was on vacation. I hardly went online because I was out with friends. Saturday, I went out with my two sisters and Hazel to buy a gift. Yesterday, I went with Shen and Jing to Sophie’s baptismal rites. I am a godparent once more. Going out and having fun beats being in Outer Banks for me. My joys are simple and a great conversation, a crazy one where we jump from one topic to another, a cup of coffee and lots of laughter is pure joy for me.
By the bulk
Sometimes, it is much better to buy wholesale than piece by piece. You can get a great discount when you buy by the bulk. Of course, you need to check the quality of the items you are getting first. Otherwise, you might end up with more waste than great finds. Most business people at night markets get their items this way. An old classmate of mine dabbles in this business in between her engineering work. Profit is easy albeit small. But hey, profit is profit, if you ask me. In times like this, even a small one counts.
