Alive, kicking and fighting a disease
I used to work with a person suffering from a very rare disease. He worked at home. He used to go to the office just for meetings and important events. We communicated with him through online messengers and email. We didn’t call him up because you wouldn’t be able to understand him that much. He was on a wheelchair and there’s a breather constantly attached to his nose. His muscles were stiff and that garbled most of his words. It’s easier talking to him over email or a messenger.
I used to avoid looking at him whenever he’s in the office. I didn’t like him to see pity in my eyes. He’s a good person and he’s a rich kid. But I still pity him for his condition. When you look at a person who’s tied to a wheelchair and a breather for the rest of his life, you can’t help but pity him. I don’t want him to see that. He’s proud and he need not work but he still did because he wanted to live a normal life.
I saw him through Twitter today. He is still alive! His sickness can choke him up alive and I thought he wouldn’t live long. I saw an interview he did with a news program and he said that his sickness was going up, now in his lungs. I thought while watching him in that interview that he wouldn’t live long. But that was a couple of years ago! He is still alive and kicking and fighting. He is showing the world that there’s life even with a disease as terminal as his.
By the way, his name is Juan.
