This generation’s lingo

I was greeting my cousin a happy birthday on her Facebook wall yesterday when I saw several other greetings from kids her age. She is in freshmen college now. You know I was shaking my head as I was reading each greeting on her wall. What is with the abbreviation, kids??? I mean how hard is it to write HAPPY BIRTHDAY and you have to abbreviate those two words? And what the hell is HBD?!? “Happy birthday” are only two words and if you want to abbreviate it, it should be HB only!

You know, I understand the need to create a generation’s own lingo. I think mine had the word gosh, and so many others, ‘immortalized’. But that word is just a way of avoiding saying God’s name in vain. This generation, I noticed, just loves abbreviating everything! I can understand it when it is an SMS message, but when you are writing directly from the web and the keyboard is easily accessible, it baffles me why you still have to shorten the words like you are writing a page-long passage!

Can someone please explain this love for abbreviating every single word?!?
