3 Ways to Improve Your Well-Being and Save Money

Sunday, January 15th, 2012

It’s a couple of weeks into the New Year, and many of us are still striving to improve ourselves. With resolutions and hard work abound, we have created lists, work out regimens, and diet plans to whip ourselves into shape. However, aside from your basic resolutions, there are a few things that you can do for yourself that will not only increase your overall well-being, but also put a few extra dollars back in your pocket:

Clean House

A cluttered house is shown to increase stress and anxiety in those dwelling in it. To clear your home and head space, consider getting rid of a few items such as that old couch, that unused DVD collection, and those decorations that are simply collecting dust. While putting your items in self storage facilities can get them out of your hair for a short time, by listing those items on CraigsList or eBay or hosting your own garage sale, you can get additional possessions out of your life for good while putting a few extra dollars in your pocket.

Lose Weight

There is no denying that losing weight is on just about everyone’s mind with the start of the New Year. As one of the top resolutions nearly every year, countless Americans have already made their way to the gym and have started new diet plans. However, losing weight isn’t just great for your health; it is also excellent for your wallet. By sticking to a diet, you will reduce your food bill, and by sticking to a workout regimen you will be able to shed the pounds that could otherwise lead to expensive obesity-related medical conditions like stroke and heart disease.

Go Green

Living sustainably has been on seemingly everyone’s mind over the last couple of years. While choosing to go green is definitely great for the environment and your own health, it is also great for your bank account. By choosing to make some cheap and easy green updates to your home or lifestyle, such as installing weatherstripping, caulking windows, or becoming a one car household, you can dramatically save on your utility and gas bills.

Trying to be a better person doesn’t have to be all work and no play. In fact, making a few changes that can better your life can also give you a few more extra dollars at the end of each month for either your retirement or your personal enjoyment.
