Quick update…

Monday, September 29th, 2008

Today is my mom’s 3rd death anniversary. We are all going to visit her grave later. I will be out the whole day and might just be online in the evening.

Anyway, this is just to tell all those who have tagged me and awarded me with something that I will be posting all of it on Tuesday morning.

Thank you for visiting as always :)

Have a great week everyone!

SB 200X91

From the guy who brought you the Big Bang Explosion meme, now comes Slogbite, an awesome new directory site. Thanks Tita Liza for inviting me! The site is still under construction but is now accepting participants in preparation for its official launch. Join now!

Join SlogBite:

  • There is no need to register!
  • SlogBite is a new concept in site directories (full participation.)
  • You decide what specific categories you want to be listed in (you can choose multiple categories.)
  • You decide your level of participation, “A” List or “B” List, by following the simple requirements.
  • You complete the form that appears in each category.
  • If you need a category to be created, it will be done upon request.
  • Slogbite is not limited to just blogs. It is open to anyone who has a web-presence.
  • SlogBite is meme based (lots of link-love, once officially launched) for the “A” List.
  • SlogBite has a varied selection of badges to choose from. Flying one of the badges is a requirement for both the “A” List and the “B” list.
  • Upon request, I will create a custom badge for your site that will point directly to the SlogBite category directory of your choice.

Searching for Sites:

  • Choose a category that interests you. Then choose a site to visit by clicking on their “most representative” post (”See the Best before you see the Rest”.) This way you start out with their best post that site has to offer in this category; a great way to browse sites; or
  • Type in a keyword that may be found in a site name, the representative post or the site description and “enter.”
  • Both options are directly under the SlogBite banner.

I would like to invite Mousey, Maiylah, VH, Angela and Anna.

Tweaking themes

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

When I am distracted and I don’t feel like writing entries, I turn to tweaking themes. I love doing this so much! I love changing codes, adding a header to an otherwise no images theme, creating ad spots and the like.

My old Splotches blog is now up and running once again. With a new theme and the EC widget back once more. Anyway, the theme looked like this before I tweaked it:

When I tweaked it, the theme now looks like this:

After completing the little tweaks (including those for the images, featured post, etc), I am now back in my “writing mode”. Doing little changes to my blogs’ themes really gets me back on track. Please go and visit Splotches. See you!

Scrollable Blogroll

How to add a scrollable blogroll to your sidebar

I know most of you have a long blogroll. It sometimes eats up one whole sidebar already. So to make it short, just add this code:

<div style=”border:1px solid #7f7f7f; overflow: auto; width: 170px; height: 250px;”>
<ul>
<center>
Blogroll Code
</center>
</ul>
</div>

You can delete the <center> </center> tags if you don’t want the list centered. You can also change the width and the height to suit your sidebar. And you can change the border as well.

That’s it!

A clearer picture

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

The thinking cap is still on and slowly, I am getting a clearer picture of the future of this blog. It’s really hard to come up with the exact plan because it keeps changing. I have some concrete ideas already, but it still some polishing. Hmm…

Several blogs are the inspiration for this change. I will mention them in time. For now, I will have to make sure that the changes will be cohesive, otherwise it will all make this blog a big mess.

Can you understand what I just wrote? *lol

Tatang Akismet

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

It amazes me really how many spam comments I get in a day. I check my spam folder from time to time because there are comments from bloggers that get included there. Bluepanjeet is a suki hehe… So I notice right off that there are always hundreds of spam comments in a day for me.

I have written this already in my other blog but then again, I haven’t really gotten a good answer. Are these spammers earning money from the spam comments? I think they do. But how much? Because if you notice these spammers, they keep on coming back to your site. Again and again. That requires time. I wonder how much are these spammers earning per spam comment. Hmm…

Paypal exchange rate

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

Just as I had expected, the exchange rate in Paypal today is:

Exchange rate: 1 U.S. Dollar = 45.8580 Philippine Pesos

When I checked the other day, the peso rate was somewhere around 44+. Wow!

If you are thinking of making a withdrawal, now is a good time to do so. It just might be a peso difference but if you are withdrawing money you worked hard for, that is still something. Of course, this topic applies to Paypal Philippines only :)

Database backup

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

My next post will be about how to do a database backup. For someone who has been in a situation wherein I felt helpless when I lost all my posts, this is now a must. Last weekend, I thought I’d go crazy when my other blog lost all its posts. The technical support guy of my web host can’t tell me anything at first. When I got angry already, he told me that he doesn’t really know anything right then except that they are having issues with their database. I panicked because I wrote at least 30 sps 3 days prior to that incident so there’s no way I can write it all again.

Anyway, after about 30 minutes of senseless chat with the tech guy, he cut me off and I just had to wait almost an hour and the posts were back. Well, now database backup is a must for me. I will write a lengthy post about it later.

In my thinking zone…

Saturday, September 6th, 2008

The thinking cap is on. Can you hear my brain churning? I’ve been racking my brain for a number of days regarding this blog. I am in a dilemma of sorts because of overlapping topics and all. You probably can’t understand me right now but suffice it to say that I will be back on Monday with something new. Hopefully, that will give me a bit more moolah and droves of traffic.

Happy weekend everyone!

Looking for the cap…

Friday, September 5th, 2008

I’ve been in a quandary as to the topics I will post in this blog. I believe I already mentioned that in several posts already. But I have yet to come up with a concrete idea. There are friends who suggest that I write about PageRank and the like. But I already figured out that the other blog will be utilizing those topics.

I am looking for my thinking cap and will be putting it on this weekend. Hopefully, I will come up with something :)

WordPress or Blogger?

Friday, September 5th, 2008

Instead of using WordPress in my new blogs, I hosted it in Blogger.com instead. As I previously mentioned, I was having problems with my current bandwidth. I believe it was because of the scripts issue that I had before. I have active blogs and sometimes, there are conflicts because of it. So to remedy it, I am hosting some of my new blogs in Blogger. I might feel the need to transfer to WordPress at a later time but for now, it will have to do.

And I hope this will work out fine.

Bandwidth problems

Friday, September 5th, 2008

The problem of having a number of blogs all hosted in a single web host and all very active is that you will surely run into bandwidth issues sooner or later. I just experienced this a number of times ever since I transferred to another web host. It takes only a few minutes but I am worried that it would be timed when advertisers are checking any of my blogs.

Oh well… more about this issue in my next couple of posts.
