What is a web directory? According to wikipedia, a web directory or link directory is a directory on the World Wide Web. It specializes in linking to other web sites and categorizing those links.
Its database is smaller than a search engine though sometimes it is considered like that but it’s not. It doesn’t display a list of websites based on keywords but instead it displays the websites by subject or category and subcategory. Web directories are maintained by humans and not by software or spiders. It also often allows the users to submit their site for inclusion and let the editor review the submissions for fitness. Another way for site inclusion is when a directory’s editor/s eventually came across a specific site and decides to add it to their listings.
Google Directory and Alive Directory are some of the web directories across the internet that lists different spam-free websites. You can also choose whether the site you’re submitting would be featured or just be simply added.
Nowadays, one’s SEO and page rank is valuable. Because the higher your site appears on a search result, the more people will visit that site. And the sites which are listed in the web directories and search engines usually have strong backlinks which may improve the page rank of a website and increase its traffic.
