Last Saturday morning, my sister and I went to Dangwa, a popular local place here in Metro Manila where flowers abound. You can go to Dangwa and find almost all kinds of flowers. Every year, before November 1st/going to the cemetery, we would go and buy flowers, and then my sister would arrange it. You can buy pre-arranged flowers but it’s cheaper to pick the flowers you want individually and prepare it in a vase or pot yourself. But this time around, we opted for the pre-arranged ones because you wouldn’t believe the prices of flowers. It was sky-high! We were told that it’s because of the recent typhoons and how it was really difficult to get the flowers because Baguio was affected by the typhoons.
We bought three flower arrangements and junked the idea of buying the way we used to.
Happy Monday!

I’ve never really enjoyed shopping. Unless it’s for books, home items and food. My friends know about this so they don’t ask me to accompany them when it comes to shopping for clothes. But on other things, they know they can count on me.

A friend of mine is shopping for garage flooring. I love anything that has to do with decorating any part of the house. I know more about it than clothes, to be honest. They can count on my opinion on anything home-related and my friends know it.
Of course, anything technical I refer to my dad hehe

When we are all home - my sisters, my brother, Hazel and my dad - expect the tv to be on. We love watching tv together, especially when the news is on. You can say that it’s one of the activities that bond us together. Some people would say it’s not good, always watching tv. But I say that it depends on what you actually watch. At home, news is always on. Local news or CNN or Fox. We also love to watch local magazine shows. Travel & Living, Discovery, Bio, History, Crime & Investigation. And HBO.

Watching tv can be a way to take your mind off your worries. I want to get tv and tv stands for the grandparents this coming holidays. When you get older, you worry a lot about so many things. It’s the same with my grandparents and I want to take their minds off of it even for an hour or two of tv watching.

I used to have this vertical banner ad spot for Adbrite on my sidebar. I removed it because there’s a flashing ad showing a woman in a red bikini and it’s about something. I forgot. When I saw it, it’s like you came upon an adult blog. Instantly, I removed the ad spot. I am keeping the one below my posts, though.
Don’t get me wrong. I like Adbrite. But I don’t like ads showing women in various states of undress, just to lure people to look at their product. It’s okay for some people, that’s marketing strategy. But I don’t like it. I am not being prudish, as what a friend said to me. I just don’t like the fact that women are being used in such a disrespectful way. There are other ways to advertise your product. I can understand if you are peddling undies or lingerie. But if you are actually marketing WordPress themes or a lifestyle web site… come on! Use another strategy!
On that note, those widgets in Entrecard showing scantily clad women in provocative poses, or those using suggestive images, please don’t bother dropping on my widget. I won’t be returning the favor. I also won’t be approving your ads, thank you.
Nuffnang, on the other hand, is giving us purely family-friendly ads. I love the fact that the products are actually something that will interest readers of various ages. The only thing I don’t get is how come I am not earning as much as others. I get fairly decent traffic for my blog. But I get stuck with earning cents off my ads. Because this blog is the only one actually earning off Nuffnang ads, I am removing all the other ad spots in my other blogs. I’ll just concentrate in this blog for everything Nuffnang.
I hope that I will earn more from Nuffnang. I love the program and I am hoping to stay with them for a long time.

November 1st, in a previous MYM entry about candles, is a big holiday here in the Philippines. Instead of the actual All Souls’ Day on November 2nd, people commemorate their dearly departed loved ones a day ahead, on All Saints’ Day. And because almost every one is in the different cemeteries nationwide, business-minded individuals take advantage of the days leading to, as well as the actual, holiday. When you are in the cemetery, no need to look for a sari-sari (convenience) store if you need something to munch on or drink. There are stores set up by enterprising individuals inside the cemeteries itself. Like the photo above.

Insurance is very important. Let me tell you about my uncle who accidentally fell asleep while driving. He came home from working a double shift. He’s been doing this for months and all of a sudden, the accident happened. And he’s near his house already when it did!
Fortunately, he has a car insurance that he pays for every year. Because of what happened, he also got an rv insurance for his rv as well as another auto insurance for the old car he has. You just never know when you’re going to need because accidents do happen when you least expect it.
Make sure your cars, house, some valuable items, and your life are insured. You need it.

The recent typhoons have left our country, Philippines, truly devastated. Typhoons Ondoy, Pepeng and the latest, Ramil.
Tents were set up and tied properly for the people of Northern Luzon. These tents currently serve as temporary evacuation for the people who will be hit by typhoon Ramil.

Because of Ondoy and Pepeng, people of some parts of Pasig City are still using makeshift bridges (like the one below) to cross the streets. These makeshift bridges are pieces of wood tied together and manned by volunteers asking for coins from the people using it.

I am thankful that no one in my family have experienced what it felt like to be tied to a big fat rope and pulled to safety. Of course, I feel sad that so many of my fellowmen experienced it. I once had to walk through a flooded street and it was only thigh-high but still a very scary ordeal for me. How much more with these people who even had to walk through neck-deep flood waters…

It is sunny here in Manila, but still foggy in some parts of the Northern Luzon. I am praying that there won’t be typhoons to come in for the rest of the year. And for typhoon Ramil to finally leave the country.
Happy weekend everyone!
This is my first time to join Photohunt. The theme for today is TIED. I hope I did well

It is inevitable that people will flock to grocery stores tomorrow. According to the local weather bureau, another super typhoon will hit the country on Thursday or Friday. I was guilty of panic buying a day or two before typhoon Pepeng hit the country. Well, if you experienced Ondoy, you would surely be hit by an overwhelming urge to stock up on food.
It’s already raining right now. I am praying, along with thousands of Filipinos, that typhoon Ramil will not hit the country and will change course.

Let me tell you something about Globe’s Postpaid Bill delivery service. My sister and I are both Globe Postpaid subscribers. Last week, she got a text message from Globe Telecoms asking her to settle her bill immediately. She was confused because she hasn’t received any bill yet and she was being asked to settle it asap.
She called up Globe Customer Service and she was told that it was already delivered several days ago and one of our neighbors received it. Upon hearing this, my sister got angry. First and foremost, there’s always someone at home, either my dad or me. So why did their delivery personnel gave the bill to a neighbor? Second, doesn’t Globe educate their delivery personnel about confidentiality? My sister does not give out her number to just about anybody. And to give the bill to a neighbor… what if our neighbor opened the bill and copied her number? It’s no big deal to some people who are used to receiving text messages and calls from people they don’t know, even prank calls in the middle of the night. But my sister is very private so this is a big deal to her! Lastly, she is bothered by the fact that there was no bill according to our neighbor! Talk about a messed up delivery service!
Naturally, when my sister talked to a Globe CS personnel, she was irate. She was assured that it will not happen again. As it should! Globe and other delivery services should educate their personnel that some things are kept private. Bills most especially. Just imagine what a bad person can do to the information he/she can get from a bill…
If you experienced this, do call Globe Customer Service and express your displeasure. Local companies should learn how to value post-sales services once and for all!

It is now less than 70 days before Christmas. After Halloween, holiday preparations will be in full blast. I am already thinking of generic gifts for her and him. You know, for people I am not really close to but would be giving gifts to. A generic gift for men and women. But for the people dear to me, it would be harder to think of gifts because I want to make sure it would be something that the person will really like and use.
For my siblings, it would be easier because I will just ask them what they want and if it fits my budget, then I will buy it. If not, I will ask them for another one. Easy!

Does she need a wrinkle cream already? Does she have to submit herself to a liposuction procedure? A face lift perhaps? Is her hairline thinning fast?
I took the time to talk to her one early morning I went online. I thought that we would catch up on what happened to each one us in the months we haven’t had time to chat. It turned out that she heaped a lot of her vanities on me. Her woes on her skin and weight problems. Superficial ones, if you think about it. I listened and answered politely. Thinking it would be over after a while. But I was wrong! The whole time we chatted, for over an hour, all we talked about was her skin, her body and her emotional burden regarding her skin and body!
I went to bed after that regrettable chat feeling inordinately tired and exhausted from the relentless talks on vanity! Aargh!
