Save on transportation expenses

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

When I was still going to the office in Makati on weekdays, I find transportation costs really expensive. I had to allot at least three thousand bucks to be able to commute daily. When I asked a friend of mine who was also going to an office near mine, he said that his gasoline expenses have been terribly eating a large chunk of his bi-weekly budget. With the rising cost of gasoline, I was not surprised when he told me that. With this in mind, I told my sister who’s now working in the same area as my previous work to find someone with whom she can share a ride with. It would be less costly, more convenient and environment-friendly, less pollution you know.

Are you looking for a carpool in your area as well? Then you can go search at RideSearch.com, a free nationwide rideshare or carpooling website. All you need to do is register to become a member and once verified, you can now access their site and search for locals who are headed in the same direction as you. You can strike an agreement with them and that’s it! Less gasoline expenses because you are sharing with the car owner.

A share of stock

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

When I was in college, a professor of mine told us something inspiring about buying shares of stock. Apparently, a college student was fascinated with the stock market. He did everything he could to be able to know the nitty gritty of trading stocks. He studied various up and coming companies. He saved his allowances and even monetary gifts from family and relatives. When he was through weighing his options, he invested in a small fastfood restaurant that offered a few shares of stock to the market. Why he chose that fastfood was because it values quality of food, cleanliness, their customers and their business partners. He really did his research. He studied their financial reports. And he was satisfied so he invested everything he had in the shares of stock that he bought. Do you know what happened after just a few years? The prices of the stocks of that fastfood company skyrocketed! They became the number one fastfood in the country and have been agressively expanding. The risk he took paid off. Big time. He did not sell his shares of stock but instead became one of the executives of the company when he graduated from his post-graduate degree. Who knew the company better than this guy who risked his money in a not-so-well-known company, right?

You might want to buy a share of Harley Davidson Stock. This is being offered by ShareInAFrame.com, an online portal dealing with shares of stocks for anyone who wants to invest in one. Go ahead, check out the site and see what other stocks they are offering.

Invest in silver

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

There are various investment options that you can look at if you are really interested in investing your money. You can check out how to buy silver, invest in money market investments, either short-term or long-term. I learned so much about short-term money market investments from my previous company. My boss loves to play around with the company’s excess funds. She would place it in several short-term money market placements. She would also place them in foreign currency investments from time to time. And these placements would yield us a lot of interest income that the bosses at the headquarters commended the local office for being so vigilant in guarding and monitoring our company funds.

Do you know that once upon a time, the company also looked into how to buy silver because we’d been hearing so much about it? The bosses abroad wanted to know more about it. Apparently, so many companies and individuals are looking into the possibility of investing in alternative ways. Well, if it will yield us better returns, why not?

If you are also looking for possibilities on how to buy silver and invest in it, then go to GoldMoney.com and they can tell you more about it, that’s for sure. Go check out their site now.

One year alone

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

I came across this question and it got me daydreaming about it…

If you had to spend one year living alone in a remote cabin, what would you spend your time doing?

I will make sure that there is enough food to last a year and I will be bringing with me boxes of books, an iPod and a laptop. I will read all the books that I don’t have enough time to read now. I will be sleeping and relaxing. Listening to music all day long. I will be finishing the stories I have started writing down months, years ago. It will surely be a grand ME time all year long!

Sigh.

What about you?

QOTD: When?

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

Let’s say you have a big paper and presentation due tonight for grad school. How long ago, or when would you have started on it?

I hate to admit this but I procrastinate a lot. And I mean A LOT! I have yet to curb this bad habit of mine. I don’t like it at all so I try to do something about this habit like schedule tasks and try to stick to it. I also have little notes stuck to my desktop monitor to make sure that I am reminded of things I have to do.

So to answer the TMA question of the day, the answer would be a six or four weeks before the presentation. Bad, I know.
