An old teacher

Wednesday, July 24th, 2013

I am friends with one of my old high school teachers. We became good friends a couple of years ago when we saw each other again at a small gathering of high school classmates. Since then, he would confide to me and a select few what’s happening to him abroad at work.

You know the truth is that I love my old teacher like an older brother. I saw in him the dedication that most teachers give to their profession and I can really tell he loves his students, old and new, something fierce! I remember how he told me and my closest friends how he would cry when it’s time for him to say goodbye to his senior students. It’s hard for him to part ways with them as he grew to love them more as friends than students. That’s how he was and that’s how he’ll always be.

And the thing is I am not sure if all his students appreciate him. I know former high school classmates and schoolmates who would make fun of him up until now and who would say stuff behind his back. I guess they don’t know him like we do.

Teaching is a very noble profession. Where will we be without our teachers who taught and helped raise us to become better human beings?

Let us learn to appreciate those who helped us become who we are now, most especially our teachers.
