SHARE Africa Makes a Difference in Today’s Impoverished African Communities

SHARE Africa is a non-profit charitable organization started in 1987. It was founded by plastic surgeon Martha M. MacGuffie and pediatric hematologist Renee M. Brilliant with the aim of bringing health, sustainability and prosperity to the impoverished and devastated communities of Africa.

The organization’s main base is in Rockland County, New York, with a satellite office in Mbita, Kenya, Africa. The charity attracts sponsors and supporters from around the world. These are people who believe in SHARE’s mission, such as H. Capital founder Amir Landsman.

SHARE Africa strives to save lives and improve the quality of life for both adults and children in particularly ravaged areas of Africa. Their focus is on communities that have been decimated by poverty, environmental disasters and preventable diseases such as HIV/AIDS.

The organization brings relief to these regions and raises standards of living, helping the people in these communities to see a bright future ahead of them. SHARE Africa is helping Kenya through a variety of programs. Its most important and well-known program is orphan sponsorship. The high incidence of HIV/AIDS in the region has left many children orphaned. Volunteers and supporters of SHARE’s mission can sponsor an orphan on a yearly basis. This sponsorship will provide the orphan with housing, schooling, healthcare and social services. This helps give the orphans the foundations they need to live productive adult lives.

SHARE also operates an emergency medical services program that trains native Kenyans as medics. The program also works on a variety of other important public-health programs. Some of these include nutritional and health education for residents, as well as medical services provided by visiting physicians from the United States. SHARE Africa also works on women’s empowerment programs that teach women in Kenya to create sustainable income for themselves through the creation and maintenance of small businesses. Through these and other efforts in Kenya, SHARE Africa is working to create a better tomorrow for the people who live there.
