Majority of us have debts. I think getting a loan/borrowing money is an inevitable part of life because we all have needs we need to fulfill and cash isn’t always available.
I remember being neck-deep in debts when I was a bit younger. It was just a few years after college, I was still struggling with my job, when I had to take out one loan after another. I also kept on maxing out my credit cards. Either a family member was sick or school fees had to be paid. Interests piled up and before I knew it, demand letters and calls from collection agents were coming from left and right! It was a very troubled period of my life and I thank the Lord I was able to rise up from it. It took a long while but I got out.
Do you know how freedom feels? Being debt-free! You don’t know how free I felt after paying off all those loans and credit card bills. When I was done paying for all my credit card bills, I had all my credit cards deactivated and cut! I didn’t want another repeat performance. The problem with me is that when I see something in the mall that I know a love one would like, I would buy it right away. So rather than be tempted all the time, I cut the root of temptation right then and there!
There is nothing wrong with having debts. I still borrow money from time to time, when I truly need it and payday is still more than a week or so. But incurring debts for luxury items you can live without… I tell you, being debt-free is so liberating!
