The weather has a way of making you go deep into the recesses of your mind. Back in that part wherein you have buried the past… her sad, pathetic past. The past that she tried to force her mind to forget.

And now, hearing the spattering of the rain on the windowpane brought back those memories again. With the onslaught of memories came the rush of pain that she thought she had forgotten as well. She thought that she was too numb to feel any emotion anymore. Smile and laughter are alien to her for the past three years now. And so is hurt.

Yet now…

Tears are silently coursing down her cheeks. Slowly, her silent cries turned into sobs… Three years of pent-up emotions. Three years…

Cholo, please…
Jan, I’m sorry. You’re just a friend to me. What happened was a mistake and you know that!
What does she have that I don’t have? We’ve known each other for years… I have loved you all my life…
Cut it out, Jan! You know how much I love Sheila. Please Jan, I don’t want to do this to you.
No, Cholo… I will fight for you. You’ve been mine for years and years until she came along. I know deep down you love me, too.
Listen to me! I DON’T, JAN! I don’t love you other than as a friend!

It was like cold water splashed on her face. She sobered, stopped crying and wiped the tears on her face.

She walked away from him and never looked back.
