Keeping track of domain and web hosting renewals

I almost forgot to renew my Bluehost web hosting account! I wasn’t checking my email for a couple of weeks now for the simple reason that I keep forgetting to open it. When I opened my email yesterday, that’s when I found out a couple of reminders from someone in Bluehost went to my spam folder. I immediately checked and was horrified by what I found out!

My Paypal account has an $8 balance! How can I renew my Bluehost web hosting account with that amount?!?

I immediately asked around and fortunately, I have good blogger-friends who always help me out when I’m on a tight spot. This time around, Caren of Carensmoja.info through Gelliane of Everyday Adventures and (as usual) Angi of Say Cheese helped me out with my problem. I was able to renew my webhosting account the same day I found out it was about to expire! Thank you, ladies!

My advise to all of you, create an alarm. Or put a post-it with an upcoming expiry date of a domain name or a web hosting account. Do it and don’t be like me who found out about it at the last minute.

Murdered by a love one

I can’t begin to imagine what it feels like to be a psychopath. I love watching the Crime and Investigation channel in cable. There was a show where psychopaths are discussed and the crimes they committed are reviewed. I saw an episode about the Whitaker killing of a mother and a sibling. I just couldn’t believe that a person who was so loved by his family could do such a thing!

Imagine staging everything… from the things he used to his alibis. He even lived at the same house where he killed his mother and his brother. He lived with his father for some time before the authorities finally caught on to his crime.

All I can say is that the man is sick! I do believe that when a person kills someone, especially a love one, sleep will start evading you. Guilt will slowly eat you and consume you until you go insane or confess to the murder! But a psychopath has no remorse. In fact, he has no feelings for what he did and for the persons he killed. Such was the man I watched on that cable show.

Disgusting person. And sad.

A friendly reminder

This is a repost (071810) and one that is timely as I am planning to be active in Entrecard once again 😉

This is just a friendly reminder to all of us using Entrecard: not every site, especially those without proper widgets, is a good one. What I mean is that, you might find a site offering downloads and other free stuff. And because it’s in the Entrecard network, you’d think it’s legitimate. Don’t! It can be a site that will give you a big headache. Think of malware. You don’t want that in your computer, trust me.

You also don’t want to be dropping on sites that offers hacking advices. It could be the site that will hack your own site. I’ve encountered that and it gave me so much headache I swore off dropping for a while.

If you see any suspicious loading scripts from a site you are dropping on, better alert the owner of the blog right away and click on the X button as fast as you can. I got a hacking script from a popular blog I dropped on a couple of months ago. It hacked almost all my blogs I opened and I ended up creating new databases for each of my blogs that got hacked.

I am not saying that each and every site without proper widget images or the ones that seem to be aggregators only are illegal sites or something like that. All I am saying is be careful in dropping. That’s it.

An unsolicited advice

This post was originally published on November 13, 2008 at 2:10 in the morning. I thought I’d share it again because this is exactly how I feel right at this very moment. I should have saved for the rainy days! I should have left a chunk of the money I got from blogging which was A LOT. I can only keep shaking my head and regret what I did.

I need to start putting in at least 10% of what I earn monthly.

I can really feel the effect of the global financial crisis. Money kept pouring in this time last year. This year, since October, money is hard to come by. Oh yes, I am still earning more than if I am employed by a corporation. But you can just feel how much this quarter is different, especially when I look at my bank statement.

I don’t know if everyone is feeling the financial crisis like I do. Some may be earning more now because they just discovered paid posting. But most bloggers I talked to have the same situation as I am.

The point of this post is to reiterate the value of saving for the rainy days. My savings were mostly spent on vacations with the whole family. I kept on telling myself that I could earn it again easily. But look at me now.

So let me offer an unsolicited advice to everyone… SAVE! Find ways to save even a peso/dollar daily and you will be amazed at how much that peso/dollar can help in times of crisis.

No Smoking!

I am not sure if there’s a law already or ordinances passed in different cities but smoking in public places are already being discouraged. I heard that those who will be caught smoking in public places including outside buildings, aboard public vehicles, in hospitals, will be penalized starting with a 500-peso fine escalating to jail time if caught repeatedly.

I do think that this is a bold move by the government. For one, the president of the country himself is a confessed smoker. He smokes a pack a day, if I am not mistaken. Most government workers themselves, MMDA officers, traffic enforcers, are smokers as well. So how do you truly implement a strict rule like this? Can you control the call center agents who smoke outside buildings during their breaks? How about the cigarette vendors, what will happen to them now?

Don’t get me wrong. I like this law. I don’t smoke and I am very much aware of what happens to smokers and those who inhale secondhand smoke. In fact, I laud the government for taking this bold move. I am just wondering if the government can truly stand by its directive when the ones who implements and monitors the law are smokers themselves.
