Creating a durable fallback career.

This is what I know for sure. Every employee in a company, apart from the owner, is dispensable. No matter what they say that a person is essential to the success of the company, in a matter of days you can be replaced by someone better and brighter and more essential to the future of the company you are working for. I’ve seen it happen time and again to older co-workers who at one time had been the backbone of the company but when the bosses saw someone better and a less expensive worker, the “backbone” was replaced.

That is why I keep telling the people close to me, family, friends and old colleagues, to make sure they have a savings account to tap on when they find themselves in between jobs. Better yet, they should create a durable fallback career for when the one they have is no longer giving them the income that will sustain their family. An alternate career that can also sustain them in the long run, and one where they can be happy and fulfilled.

This person who I used to work with is using his God-given talent as a fallback should his career in the real estate industry will no longer sustain him and his family. He bought this contrabrass flute at wwbw, learned more complicated tunes, and recorded a couple of it to be used in weddings as background music. It was done for fun in the beginning but he later realized that it can be an alternate career for him. Who would have thought that his idea will become a success? He is now supplying background music CDs not only to weddings but also to other parties and events.

Create a durable fallback career which can sustain you and your love ones, and one which can give you the fulfillment and satisfaction you need.

Early Friday lakwatsa.

work

This is what I love about working at home. I get to go out whenever I feel like it, just as long as I have no tasks needed to be done right away. I schedule my work so that I am not tied to my desk all day long. I can go out even on a Monday or a Friday morning unlike when I had a nine to five job.

I am sure a lot of people who also work at home can relate to the joy of being able to control your time. There is so much joy as well as to working without a boss!

Happy Friday everyone!

And Kung Hei Fat Choi to all!

No to violence!

I am getting sick and tired of all these news of violence by individuals who should know better than to inflict pain towards others. Why take the law into your own hands when you can go to the police and let them handle the situation, right? I understand majority of us don’t trust the police anymore but if we take the law into our own hands, what would become of our society? We would go back to the dark ages when every person carries something to defend himself! Do we want that to happen? I don’t. I am sure you don’t want to as well.

I am not saying that I am a saint. I must admit that I am not really kind, too. But I am a person trying to live a decent and peaceful life. I try to be patient towards others. A little patience goes a long way. Trust me. A lot of crimes are committed just because a person’s impatience got in the way. I am also trying to be considerate and sensitive towards others. It’s not easy. Some people can be assholes. But when you think about it, a little consideration, a little sensitivity, can save lives.

I remember a quote I read that goes like this… Be kind to others. Every one of us is going through a situation. Something to that effect. And you knows what? It’s true! I remember being so grouchy, touchy, and a tad more unkind towards others when my mom was sick and in the hospital fighting for her life. If someone was unkind to me that time, I don’t know what would have happened to me. I was rude to others and half the time I wasn’t even aware of it. It was only after my mom was buried when I realized just how bad I was during the period my mom was very sick. Of course, I know it wasn’t an excuse. I am not making excuses for my actions. What I am trying to say here is that half the time most people are unaware of their actions because they’re minds are elsewhere. We are all undergoing a situation and a little patience towards others, a little consideration, is the kind thing to do.

We cannot change our past. We can not change the fact that people act in a certain way. We can not change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude.

We should keep in mind that attitude makes a huge difference in any kind of situation. And it is something that we can always control.

Let us all say NO to violence! Let us always choose to be kind even when the other person doesn’t really deserve the kindness. It’s not for them but for our own peace of mind, anyway. And for the world to be a better place to live in for all of us.

We can start with our neighbors, you know.

Brand new laptop!

laptop

I am happy with my latest purchase. I bought a brand new Lenovo G400 laptop just yesterday afternoon. I am not too happy with my former laptop because it has Windows 8 as its operating system. This one I have now has Windows 7. I know it was a petty problem but I don’t care. I want a brand new one and I know this will bring me so many new good opportunities. I can already feel it coming!

I’ve been feeling a bit stuck in a rut for days now. I feel it in my bones that this new laptop will bring back my burning passion in writing. And, maybe, I will need to make sure that I be able to do both blogging and writing my planB.

So here’s to better tomorrows for you and me!

Further cut?!?

I am sorry I have to let this out. I need to vent so bear with me.

I know that it is my choice to join a certain program, receive jobs from them, and the corresponding fee for it. They get a cut out of the fee I am getting for each job and it is perfectly fine with me. It is a choice I make each and every time I accept a job.

But to find out when they pay you that they are letting you bear the fees when they already got a cut out of the payment you are getting is a bit unfair to me. The fees are minimal, yes, but I am just disappointed that they are making a further cut out of the little income I would get!

Just disappointed. I used to get my payments without any fees deducted from it. I don’t know why for the past couple of months they’ve been using a mode of payment where there are fees involved. And then they will make me ‘suffer’ because of it. Ugh!

Regularly change passwords.

password

That’s what I am going to implement this year on all my accounts. I will change my passwords every now and then. In very important accounts such as web hosting account, blogs, and primary email accounts.

I recently experienced getting my web hosting account hacked and it was a major concern for me considering the sites hosted there are not only mine but also of some friends. I couldn’t very well let it sit there just like that so the minute I found some irregularities in one of my sites, I double-checked all the sites and the cpanel as well. It was a tedious process and one that I don’t want to happen again.

long passwords

Do you agree?

So, as one of the precautions I am undertaking in securing all my accounts, I am going to regularly change passwords and will do a sweep of my cpanel for anything suspicious that needs triple-checking. I will use longer passwords to make sure it will be harder to guess, hopefully. And I will be more vigilant, more so than I did last year.

Change your passwords. It just might save you from a huge headache, you know.

New year, new venture.

One of my new year resolutions is to start a new venture. I am looking into opening a small business, possibly a food cart business somewhere in the city. I am targeting a spot in a public school nearby. I am already talking to an aunt who will become my business partner, a former colleague who will act as my external accountant and auditor, and a younger cousin who will be the one to man my food cart. It is not an easy process because there are permits to secure while sticking to the budget I made but I am doing my best to make it happen as soon as possible.

I am actually very inspired by a neighbor’s story. He was online checking some supplies at http://www.reidsupply.com/ and it hit him that he wanted to open his own hardware store. He started small, very much like a sari-sari store but stocked with hardware supplies. And then slowly he expanded as income poured in.

I would like to do the same. Slowly expand this new venture into a mini empire of my own.

Twenty Fourteen theme used.

A couple of years ago, I commissioned a Malaysian couple to do a customized WordPress theme for this blog. They were not yet the popular design duo that they are now so the fee was minimal for a customized theme. I was able to afford their services.

The old customized theme of this blog.

I wanted a new theme for 2014 so I checked their current rates and I immediately backed out. I cannot afford their rates anymore! I understand, of course, that they are popular now and, well, it’s been years so I thought instead of checking out other similarly pricey customized themes, I’d just use a free one.

I upgraded to WordPress 3.8 and the free theme that came with it was the Twenty Fourteen theme. Since I cannot customize the header and sidebar colors, I checked a child theme and found one that I can fully customize to my liking! And voila! A new theme using my old header!

What do you think?
