Weekend Snapshot

my weekend snapshot entry no. 19

Our place is surrounded with open-cut mining which involve digging a large open hole into the earth’s surface to reach the coal/lignite. The opencast mines supply energy for the entire households and industry of this land and 29% of the country’s power generation is based on coal. Yesterday, we went to see the newly develop area and the excavator was in time working. The excavator is the world’s largest mobile machine. That have a gigantic bucket wheel excavators that dig the brown gold out of the earth. It stands 90 meters tall and 200 meters long and weighing some 13,000 tons. Around 10% of the coal is upgraded to produce solid fuels, such as briquettes, pulverized lignite and fluidized bed lignite for industry and households.
