The festive season is celebrated here in Germany with the opening of Christmas Markets known as weihnachsmarkt. It is held in the town squares, the market combines with shopping and traditional way. And so we visited one christmas market in Cologne. Approching the place hmmm… a smell of roasted almonds welcomed us. Every booth have their specialties, among the items are assorted cookies (Lebkuchen similar to ginger bread),egg bread with candied fruit (Stollen), sausages and pretzels, and (Glühwine) a red wine combined with spices like honey and served hot to warm you up. Its not more than just food, there are also a lot of handicrafts to choose from like handmade christmas decors, jewelries, house decors, winter clothings, gifts ideas and souvenirs. The market is designed with twinkling colored lights,a tall christmas tree at the center with a live choir singing christmas songs and the most popular the nativity scene.
It was a good cold rainy night walk.
